On Friday 26th January, the Physical Education department went to the GoFit Gym on Las Canteras with all the examination PE classes (Y10-13). The trip was designed to extend the range of opportunities available to our sports students and provide an insight into the leisure industry, whilst learning more about health, fitness and the human body.
The sports instructors at GoFit designed a specific programme for our students and used their specialist coaching knowledge to run the sessions. The day consisted of:
- Specialised spin class (Cycling)
- Gym Induction
- Body Index Evaluation
- Aqua Aerobics
- Rest and Recovery/Physio pool
Along with these exciting activities, we put learning into practice by teaching the students how to apply theory taught during the IGCSE and A Level courses, as well as teaching the students new life-long learning skills. The students were pushed to their limits in a "spin session" and given an alternate view of physical activity through "Aqua Aerobics", as well as using state of the art technology to access our Physique and training levels.
The instructors at GoFit Las Canteras were outstanding throughout the day, and we thank all who were involved.
"It was very motivating and the coaches inspired us to try something new."
"We experienced some new activities like Aqua Gym and Spinning which were exhausting but enjoyable."
"One of the coaches taught us a new way of measuring our heart rate levels, it was called the Karvonen method, and we used the machines to test it."
"It was a really good insight into the future of sports, where we could appreciate how technology has an impact on our everyday lifestyle"
